Celebrated experimental German pianist Volker Bertelmann – known as Hauschka – is not what you’d expect. Having studied classical piano for ten years, his work as Hauschka playfully explores the possibilities of the ‘prepared’ piano – a disruptive intervention into the idea of the piano as a pure-toned, perfected instrument waiting for a gifted virtuoso to play on it.
Hauschka is recognised as one of the 21st century’s greatest proponents of prepared piano. His New York debut has been described as “a transporting, ecstatic experience.”
