In the tradition of Somersault, writer/director Rhys Graham (Murundak: Songs of Freedom) explores the heartrending, chaotic, immense world of teenagers in his narrative feature debut Galore.
Set over the long, hot summer that led up to the 2003 Canberra bushfires, the film follows Billie (Ashleigh Cummings from Tomorrow, When the War Began and hit TV show Puberty Blues) and her best friend Laura (Lily Sullivan who wowed audiences in Mental). Two impulsive teenage girls who live in the outskirts of Canberra, they dream of a life outside of the one they know. They share everything… including Laura’s boyfriend, Danny (Toby Wallace), who Billie has fallen crazy in love with. When Billie’s social-worker mum takes in Isaac (Aliki Matangi), a troubled kid trying to escape his past, the delicate balance of their lives is disrupted. Laura finds herself drawn to the intense and tender Isaac and the four teenagers find their lives colliding at dizzying speed.
Galore has been selected for the Generation section of the Berlin Film Festival.
